You can find these bivalve mollusks in fresh water, salt water, and on a menu! These mussel shells are the external covering that is a two-part hinged shell that contains a soft-bodied invertebrate. Draw an empty one below.
-Draw a circle shape with a curve coming out of the top. Close the curve with a straight line. This second shape should look like a modified triangle

-Curve the tip of the triangle shape as shown. Add a curve that cuts through both shapes and a backwards “3” shape along the inside of the largest curve.

-Erase the parts of the guidelines no longer needed so that the two original shapes form one shell shape. Add more lines inside the shell that follow the contour of the outside to start indicating tone changes.

-Start adding tone. Using a back-andforth motion, fill in the outer edge near the largest curve. Press harder around the edges. Inside the shell, start adding a variety of pressures to form shadows and depth.

-Add more tone and smooth with a tool. Erase lightest areas to create highlights.
