A bird nest is a place where a bird lays its eggs. Common nests are made using a combination of mud, twigs, leaves, and feathers. All you need to make this one is a pencil and 5 minutes!
Step 1: Start with a small oval shape placed slightly off-center toward the top of a larger oval shape as shown.

Step 2: Place an egg shape inside the smallest oval drawn in step 1.

Step 3: Layer another egg shape so it intersects as shown. There are 2 eggs total. Draw a “bottom” to the nest by adding curves to the left and right of the egg near the bottom inner oval.

Step 4: Press hard and add a layer of tone to the base of the nest drawn in step 3. Complete the remainder of the original inner oval using a slightly lighter tone. Erase overlap in eggs so one appears to be in front of the other.

Step 5: Draw a series of lines that swirl around the outside oval shape. It is okay if the lines fall outside of the oval a bit – in fact it will look more natural. Add a light layer of tone to the shadow side of the eggs.

Extra time: Add more swirls of lines that follow the contour of the nest using thick and thin lines for variation. Add small scribble marks for speckles on the eggs. Deepen some of the darker tones for more contrast.
