The most popular first move in the game of checkers is called “Old Faithful,” when a player moves one of the two center pieces toward the opponent. Make your first moves in this tutorial using ellipses and lines.
1-Draw an oval shape. Follow the contour of the bottom of the oval and draw a curve.

2-Connect the oval and curve with short vertical lines on each side. Add a ring around the inside of the short cylinder you have created.

3-Add a curve at the top of the inside of the oval created in step 2. Add a series of concentric circles to the center.

4-Add a layer of tone to the drawing. The inner ring created in step 3 and the very bottom curve should be slightly darker.

5-Darken the left edge of each center circle so it appears to have a 3D quality. Add lines that radiate from the center point of the smallest circle on the outer edge only.

EXTRA TIME
Darken the dark areas. Add a line of highlight between the radiating lines to create the illusion of peaks and valleys.
