It takes a hen between 24 and 26 hours to develop an egg. Once she lays an egg, the development of a new egg normally starts within 30 minutes.
This tutorial will take a fraction of that time to create a realistic egg.
Step 1: Start with a circle. Add an arch to the top to form the leaner part of the egg.

Step 2: Erase part of original circle that overlaps into the egg. Rim the sides and bottom with a layer of shade.

Step 3: Fill in the whole egg with a light layer of shade, pressing slightly harder around the outer contour.

Step 4: Blend with finger or tool to smooth tones. Use the kneaded eraser to pull some tone away from the center.

Extra time: Add a shadow beneath the egg to indicate a surface. Deepen the tone where the egg touches the surface. Add more highlights on the center and top of egg to create a rounded (3D) appearance.
