Sharks have a fearsome reputation because of the publicity of attacks of humans. On the rare occasion when a shark attack does occur, it is usually a case of mistaken identity. No one will mistake your drawing for anything less than formidable when you follow the steps below.
Step 1: Start with an ellipse shape for the body.

Step 2: Add shapes at top and bottom as shown for fins. Add curves coming from the back of the ellipse for the tail. Draw a short slash for the mouth, dot for the eye, and curved lines for gills near the lower front fin.

Step 3: Use a quick back-and-forth motion to fill in the tone. Areas near the edges can be slightly darker than the center. Leave area near nose and mouth untouched by tone. Define mouth.

Step 4: Use a blending tool to smooth tones. Add more tone for contrast, leaving areas near mouth, tops of fins, and bottom 1/4 of body lighter for highlights.

Step 5: Blend tones once again. Use a kneaded eraser to highlight thin stripes of light tone on fronts of fins, top of body, and around the eye.
