Chili peppers have been a part of the human diet in the Americas since at least 7500 BCE. Construct this ancient subject using circles and lines. Try it with colored pencil to add some spice!
Step 1: Start with a large circle for the top and an ellipse for the bottom. Connect with curves.

Step 2: Add a stem detail to the top with curved lines.

Step 3: Fill in with a fast layer of even tone.

Step 4: Add another layer of tone, this time darkening areas of shadow near the center and the stem.

Step 5: Erase lightest areas to create contrasting highlights.

Extra time: Blend more for smoother tone. Use a kneaded eraser to “draw” stripes that follow the contour of the pepper for a high shine effect. Add darker tone to the shaded area for even more contrast.
