How to draw a scissors

Originally, scissors were made from bronze or iron. Today they are usually made from stainless steel with plastic handles. Make yours with just a pencil and paper.

Step 1: Start with two lines that form an “X” as shown. Note that the left side of the “X” is wider than the right side. This “X” will serve as a guideline for the blades. Add two circle shapes after the right side of the “X”, noting their placement and distance from one another.

Step 2: Draw around the original “X” shape, using it as a guide to make the scissor blades. Draw thin circles around the circle shapes drawn in step 1. Connect the “X” to the circles with curved lines.

Step 3: Add 3D elements to the drawing. This should include adding edges to the circles and lines on the blades to indicate tone changes. Add a tiny circle for a screw to connect the blades.

Step 4: Add a light layer of tone to the scissors. Make the underside of the bottom blade slightly darker. Do the same for the underside of the handles and circles. This will help to give the illusion of depth.

Step 5: Smooth the tones using a finger or blending tool. Use a kneaded eraser to add highlights to the blades and handles.
