Flounder fish are a type of flatfish that are found in the warm coastal waters of the Northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Canada, and the United States. Give your flounder some dimension using value and pattern.
Step 1: Start with a sideways egg shape. Take about 10 seconds for this. Draw lightly!

Step 2: Add triangle shape for the face to the left. Draw curves for tail at right. Take about 30 seconds.

Step 3: Draw oval eyes with pupils and mouth detail. Add fin curves to top and bottom. Take about 30 seconds.

Step 4: Finish mouth, fill in pupils, close fin at end.

Step 5: Quickly block in a layer of tone all over the fish. Leave a line of white on the center and some on the face for pattern/highlight. Draw lines that fan out from the fins as shown.

Step 6: Add another layer of shade, deepening the darkest areas, especially around the mouth and body edges. Use a scalloped edge to shape the fin ends.

Extra time: Add a pattern to the body, highlight in the eyes and use kneaded eraser to create more shine/highlights. Erase any unnecessary sketchy lines.

Note: A scalloped edge is a decorative line formed by a series of curves that repeat along an edge. This can be handy when defining the edges of the fins in this flounder drawing.
