A group of goldfish is called a “troubling.” There is nothing troubling about this 5-minute tutorial if you draw one step at a time.
Step 1: Start with an oval shape.

Step 2: Add circle for eye and small line for mouth. Add fin outline to top, rear, and bottom.

Step 3: Add lines to fins to indicate texture. Add eye detail and gills.

Step 4: Add a light layer of tone to the whole fish. Erase parts of original oval guideline that are no longer needed. Darken pupil and add rim of tone around it in the white part as shown.

Step 5: Add darkness to fin lines drawn in step 3. Press harder with pencil for darker tone around gills, top curve of body, and rear.

Extra time: Use kneaded eraser to lighten areas of highlight. “Draw” strips of lighter tone with the eraser between the darker fin lines. Add a pattern of thick lines to the top of the body to indicate scales.
