STEP 1-Start with two ellipses far apart from one another (about the length of a AAA battery)! The one on the right is slightly smaller than the one on the left to show distance / perspective. Connect the ends of each ellipse with straight lines.

STEP 2-Draw an oval inside the left oval and a curved line to the left of the center to show the cross contours. Draw a line down the center/right to indicate where the tone changes will be.

STEP 3-Add another small ellipse inside the one drawn in step 2. Turn it into a small cylinder by drawing lines on either side and closing the bottom with a curve. Erase the part of the ellipse on the far right that is no longer needed.

STEP 4-Add a layer of tone to the battery: lighter on the left and darker near the right. Add a few strokes of dark tone to the side of the small cylinder created in step 3.

STEP 5-Blend with blending tool to smooth tones. Add a rim of tone to the inside ovals on the left as shown to indicate depth. Deepen the tones then use an eraser to create stripe of shine across all of the tones.
