An icicle is the spike-shaped block of ice that forms when dripping water freezes. Form your icicle using long strokes and shading with the edge of your pencil.
STEP 1-Draw long, vertical lines of differing lengths. These are guidelines and will eventually be erased. They will mark the centers of each icicle.

STEP 2-Draw curves around the guidelines to create long, irregular triangles that resemble icicles. They should connect at the top with curved lines and taper to points at the bottoms.

STEP 3-Erase original guidelines, leaving the icicle shapes. Draw light lines along the inside contours of the icicles to add dimension.

STEP 4-Add a layer of tone to the sides, keeping it darker on the left of each side.

STEP 5-Fill in the remainder of the icicle with light shade. Blend with finger then add short lines randomly cutting half way across the icicles.

STEP 6-Erase a section down the centers of each to show highlights.

Extra time: Use eraser to make icicles even lighter. The right side of each icicle will be lighter than the left. There won’t be much contrast and the icicles should appear transparent. This is a low-contrast drawing.
