Scumbling is method of shading using tiny circles. The texture created depends on the size and pressure used to draw the circles. This can be a simple yet effective technique to use when creating wool on this sheep.
Step 1: Start with a circle close to, but not touching, an oval.

Step 2: Add a rounded triangle touching the top left of the circle. This will be the head. Connect the circle and oval with lines on the top and bottom as shown. Draw curves for front and back legs.

Step 3: Using curves and lines, draw ears, forehead and facial details. Connect head to front body circle near ear on left. Finish legs and add hoofs.

Step 4: Fill in entire sheep with a light layer of tone. Use a quick, back-andforth motion. Darken the ears and left side of face slightly.

Step 5: Shade over the sheep using a series of small circles. This is known as scumbling. Use more pressure near chest, under belly, near bends in the legs, hoofs and under the tail. Add a light layer of tone beneath the nose and above eyes. Lightly blend to smooth tones.
