1-Start by drawing the bottom half of a 3D rectangle. Then draw equally spaced descending 90-degree stair shapes between the two vertical lines.

2-Add the steps including perspective, ensuring equal space. Note you’ll only see the underside of the steps.

3-Lightly sketch the interior edge of the two other sides of stairs to close the loop. These will be more squished and jagged 90-degree angled squares.

4-Draw each individual step of one side. Notice how we don’t see the underside of those steps because of perspective.

TECHNIQUE STUDY
If your repeating loop is on top of a building, you’ll need a convincing perspective for your architecture; create a simple one-point perspective drawing or a rectangular building.
5-The final row of stairs meets up with the 90-degree-angle side of the rectangle. Draw a step or two coming out from that interior stair edge. Put these in perspective.

6-Lightly shade. Most steps are in the light, while the walls have shadow.

7-Decorate the walls with some fun windows, vines, or flowers crawling up the sides. Are the stairs made out of wood or brick? Is someone walking on them?

8-Finish the piece by adding in value and some details.

KEY-DETAIL PRACTICE
Re-create the brick texture, but sketch the stones lightly, then render with shadow.
