1-Start with a small circle and overlapping oval.

2-Add a curve at chest and a tail feather.

3-Erase inner areas indicated by dashes.

4-Add eyes, beak, brows and more tail feathers.Add wing and line to separate neck from head.Eye closest to viewer is larger.

5-Add pupils, toes, a brow and tail feather.Toe circles.

6-Add branch and connect feet to body.Erase dash line areas.Add curved lines around eyes.

7-Draw feathers on wing.Start with a 1/2 ova.lAdd one next to it.Draw on in center below.

8-Add feather details.

9-Add claws.

10-Begin shading by darkening the areas indicated below.Leave white area on beak for highlight.Feathers, pupils, beak and areas underneath the neck, feet and branch will be the darkest areas on the owl drawing.

11-Add more shading to the undersides and between feathers.

12-Continue to deepen shadows while leaving other areas light to create contrast.

13-Gently blend shades as desired.Erase lighter spots for highlights.

As the shading deepens, the original outline of the drawing should disappear. Objects in real life don’t have a solid outline around them, simply just a change in value. The same goes for a realistic drawing: don’t darken the outline, darken the shadows.
