Forks were originally used by the Greeks to remove food from boiling pots. Forks weren’t widely used as an eating utensil until Catherine de Medici brought them to France from Italy, and even then, it took a few hundred years for people to stop eating with their hands. Follow these steps to draw this simple, yet civilized, eating device.
Step 1: Start with a circle connected to a diagonal line for the handle guideline. The left side of the handle will have a short diagonal line with 4 short lines drawn perpendicular to it.

Step 2: Draw around the guidelines created in step 1 to add “thickness”

Step 3: Erase original guidelines. Add a 3D edge to the left side of each tine by following its contour and drawing a line close to it to indicate depth.

Step 4: Add a light layer of tone to the fork. Press harder for darker tone on the 3D edges created.

Step 5: Add highlights to edges of fork tines using an eraser. Darken the edges of each plane to create contrast.
