How to draw a monkey

Monkeys are furry/hairy critters! Observing the direction of fur/hair growth can aid in making a seemly time-consuming drawing look realistic in mere minutes.

Step 1: Start with a circle head and a larger oval body.

Step 2: Add an oval shape inside the head around where the eyes will be with a circle mouth area below. Draw 2 small circle shapes for eyes inside the oval. Draw a large oval for a hind leg with a smaller oval paw connected with two lines. Draw the front arms as shown.

Step 3: Add pupils, eyebrows, nose and mouth details. Add a half circle for the hip attached to the hind leg. Add curves for ears and shoulder on left. Add lines on hands and feet to represent fingers and toes.

Step 4: Fill in the monkey with short, quick lines that follow the contour of the body. Get shorter and darker as the lines radiate around the facial features. Fill in the eyes with a light tone.

Step 5: Fill in the area with more line, creating a fur texture. Make lines denser as they are drawn around the arms, face and bottom. Leave a white rim around the eyes.

Step 6: Add even more lines to continue the fur texture. Use a kneaded eraser to highlight the tops of each body part including the back, shoulder, leg, and right side of face.

Step 7: Smooth tones to blend them. Add more lines for hair, as blending may cause some of the previously drawn ones to disappear.
