Baby steps… Although they are adorable, shoes aren’t necessary for your baby unless he or she is actually walking. Try this pair on the front of a homemade baby shower card that will be treasured by the receiver for years.
Step 1: Draw 2 oval shapes for the sole of the shoe. Add a line that follows the contour of the front for the seam.

Step 2: Add upper portion of shoe using a series of curves. Don’t forget the tongue.

Step 3: Add the laces. They should appear to slightly curve over the tops of the shoes, connecting the upper sections.

Step 4: Erase the area of the sole guideline that is no longer needed. Lay down a light layer of tone over the whole shoe. Press harder for a darker tone at the top as shown.

Step 5: Blend tones to smooth them out. Darken lines and add a thin strip of tone to the area above the tongue to show depth. Add a thin shadow beneath the front toes of each shoe. Use an eraser to remove pigment from the laces.

Extra time: Refine the tones and smooth them further. Draw a scalloped edge around the top and sections next to the tongue for a dainty pattern. Use a kneaded eraser inside the curves of the scalloped pattern to highlight them. Draw small dots around the scalloped edge and stitching details as desired. Add a layer of tone to bottom length of laces to create a shadow.
